چکیده
At Chaihuín marsh, south of Valdivia (39°56’ S/73°33’ W), a sand bed was deposited during the 1960 earthquake. The aim this study is to map tsunami deposit in detail and associate earlier layers with past tsunamis. Geologic field mapping by means stratigraphic sections constructed using 111 cores marsh revealed existence three layers. source these determined statistical comparison their sedimentological mineralogical signatures modern depositional environments. results show that waves probably transported found marsh. It inferred were tsunamis followed subsidence associated great historical megathrust earthquakes 1575, 1737 or 1837, 1960. However, are different from each other terms lateral distribution source, which we interpret as either changes bar human occupation differences coseismic slip resulting variable accommodation space provided well wave height.
